So, after Chicago and Tokyo were declassified, Madrid would have had more chances than Rio due to its infrastructure. But, the Olympiads of 2012 are going to take place in London (in the same continent as Madrid), and the IOC likes to vary it a bit, to go to different continents. Most of the votes from Chicago, Tokyo and cities in Europe went to Rio, because other major European cities want to host the 2020 Olympics, such as Paris, Berlin, and Rome.
3. President Obama would have helped with his presence, but when he showed up in Copenhagen it was already too late. Brazilians had been working hard to make sure they’d get to host the Olympic Games, as they’d been trying for a long time (forever! lol), and were never able to host until now.
President Obama place it in a nice way: “they’ve (Brazil) never hosted the Olympics”. He knows how vital it is for Brazil to host the Games, it will inspire a continent, 400 million people.
Chicago failed for a few reasons:
1. The city wanted to host the Olympiads according to the city’s own contract; the IOC doesn’t like it (reason why Chicago was the first city discarded among the 4 finalist);
2. Chicago wanted to build a temporary infrastructure for the Games, and the IOC doesn’t like it either; they like to leave a positive impression on a host city, which Rio de Janeiro embraced. Brazil is investing over 30 billion dollars in the city of Rio helping out in its infrastructure.

i really like the way the guy on the left was thinking about chicago. he was worried about some real problems going down in chicago.
but now that i reckon about it, rio doesn’t even come close to chicago in being safe. Rio is a perilous ass city! lol gangs?? pffft that’s child’s play in rio. they have FAVELAS!
and u guys are right, it seems like chicago was in the running cuz of obama, but i reckon it’s jsut a coincidence, cuz these cities have been on the running for years.

but to answer the question of how the cities are chosen, mpretty much it comes down to a vote of all these really vital ppl.
Its a HUGE deal, really. Cuz the cities have to propose to the olympic comittee why their city is best for the event, which includes alot of info related to infrastructures, and many other things. pretty much, thought it just comes down to the voters at the end. pretty huge deal, tho, cuz it’s such a huge international event.
whether beyonce, alicia, rihanna, lady gaga was involved with man separated from his wife, I DON’T CARE. To turn around and say I’m not a fan of your music anymore, I won’t buy your album anymore, because your personal life must be squeaky clean… YOU ARE THE WACKEST THING. I loved Winehouse and her music even though she was a crackhead. Some people… SMH.

I’ve been to Rio on several ocassions and believe me, they have the largest favelas(ghettos) in the world. You will see them on your way to copacabana beach from the airport so I don’t reckon crime was a factor in the olympic committee’s decison. Maybe it was time to share the wealth of hosting the olympics games with countries who has traditionally been left out. Sign of the times…we just elected a president who has the race of people who has traditionally been left out. God bless America!!

I was in chi-town for nearly a month, & the tourist areas are awesome (downtown,lake MI etc). But i was EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE when my fam would drive me thru the projects! diff relatives make jokes OR tell tales like how if u park in a terrible area u gotta pay Street Taxes. With all the tales (n my cuz really Like chillin in the hood- God knows why) of CORZ i wouldnt wanna drive for MILES n MILES in these areas in the day OR night. ive lived in many cities, Chi’s Projects r on a Diff LEVEL!!

i know that devajeaco….but my point still remains the same. I live in Chicago, and i know all about the crime that goes on, but I also know about crime in Rio de Janeiro. I was just stating a fact. But i do agree, that the$100million could’ve been spent in other places
